IMAGINARY LACE DRAWINGS

In autumn 2023, I relocated to Paris and, through an unexpected turn of events, came into possession of a complete set of bobbin lace-making tools. This chance encounter opened up a new world. I began attending a monthly lace club on the outskirts of the city, learning through the exchange of techniques among members, and working directly with thread — observing how patterns emerge from the crossing and interlocking of each strand.
This experience became inseparable from this illustration series: imagined laces, drawn from the quiet beauty of historical motifs and the stories they carry across centuries.
2023年秋、パリに移り住み、 ある巡り合わせから、ボビンレース制作道具一式を手にすることになりました。この偶然の出会いが、新しい世界への扉を開いてくれました。郊外で毎月開かれるレース教室に通い始め、メンバー同士で技術を交換しながら学び、糸そのものと向き合う中で、一本一本の糸が交差し絡み合うことでパターンが生まれていく様子を見つめてきました。
こちらのイラストレーションシリーズはこの経験はからインスピレーションを受けて制作しました。歴史的なモチーフが持つ静かな美しさと、それが何世紀にもわたって運んできた物語に着想を得た、想像上のレースたちです。
